Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, is anticipated to return to Nigeria on Monday (today), barring any last-minute adjustments, after being away from the country for 34 days.
According to his campaign council, Tinubu left the nation on March 21 in order to rest and make plans before his inauguration on May 29.
Tinubu traveled to France to relax and arrange his transition strategy after a demanding campaign and election season, according to a statement from the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council in March.
“The president-elect had left the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja,” the statement noted.
“The president-elect decided to take a break after the hectic campaign and election season to rest in Paris and London, preparatory to going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Lesser Hajj) and the Ramadan Fasting.”
His Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the former governor of Lagos State’s anticipated arrival on Monday.
Onanuga said on Twitter that the incoming president had been on holiday in France.
A convoy resembling a carnival would transport Tinubu, whose plane is scheduled to land at the presidential wing of the Abuja Airport, from the airport to the Defense House.
“Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu returns to Abuja today after weeks of a well-deserved vacation in France. E kaabo! Se dada le de!” he tweeted.
James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Ikeja Federal Constituency, asked the President-elect’s supporters to welcome him to Abuja in a statement he released on Sunday under the name “Organiser.”
“My dear brothers and sisters of this unique family. I wish to inform and request of us all that anyone in Abuja and Nasarawa is invited to join in receiving our Peoples President and First Lady Elect tomorrow by 2pm at the Presidential wing of the International Airport.
“Departure Time:2pm; Departure Venue: The Campaign Office; Accreditation time: 12pm. Buses will be provided. Only Accredited persons will be allowed at the Airport for security reasons,” he said.To prevent a repeat of the 2015 event that resulted in Senators Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara serving as the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, there are rumors that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling APC is getting ready to meet with the President-elect.
In defiance of the APC leadership, both had become leaders of the National Assembly.
