The President expressed great pleasure with the array of naval assets on display and the combat readiness of the Nigerian military during the Presidential Fleet Review on Monday at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos.

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed confidence Tuesday that the future administration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue to offer critical assistance to the Nigerian Navy, continuing the positive trajectory established during his tenure.

He remarked that he had no doubt that the Navy would continue to acquire new assets, boost shipbuilding for export reasons, encourage indigenous production, intensify the battle against piracy, and handle crude oil theft issues under Tinubu’s leadership.

He emphasized the considerable drop in piracy over the last seven years, which has resulted in Nigeria’s removal from the International Maritime Bureau’s list of piracy-prone countries in March 2022.

He praised the use of technology in maritime security, which facilitated intelligence-driven deployment of naval ships and increased their efficacy.

The President praised the diligent prosecution of MT HEROIC IDUN, which was found and detained in August 2022 for attempting to ship crude oil without authorization offshore Bonny.

During the Fleet Review, Buhari also unveiled numerous new additions to the Navy’s fleet, including a new Italian-made helicopter, the NN410, and the landing ship transport NNS KADA, built in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
